COMMUNITY PROGRAM SPECIALIST BOOKMOBILE OPERATOR

San Mateo County Library is seeking candidates for the position of Community Program Specialist (CPS) Bookmobile Operator to help strengthen our community by creating an inclusive sense of place and an environment for learning. The CPS Bookmobile Operator will have the opportunity to drive SMCL’s Bookmobile and other transit vehicles as needed throughout the County of San Mateo, bringing the library to underserved communities and promoting library services everywhere. The incumbent will provide excellent customer service to Bookmobile users while parked at stops by assisting them with circulation, technology and basic reference questions; process and merchandise library materials in order to get books, movies and music into the hands of our patrons; and serve as a friendly representative of San Mateo County Library, actively encouraging use and exploration of the bookmobile and facilitating exciting library learning experiences to community members of all ages.

Qualifications include:

Community Program Specialist I: Two years of experience in an organization providing social services which has included responsibility for community service program development such as planning, evaluating, monitoring or coordinating projects.

Community Program Specialist II: Four years of experience in an organization providing social services which has included responsibility for community service program development such as planning, evaluating, monitoring or coordinating projects.

Possession of a valid California Class B Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent with Air Brakes certification is highly preferred. Because of the diversity of the communities served, the Library strongly encourages individuals with fluent bilingual language skills to apply, especially those with Spanish-English communication skills. Candidates should have strong written/verbal communication, customer service and collaboration skills and flexibility to work a combination of day, evening and weekend shifts.

NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Some extra-help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra-help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.
