CDL-A Dedicated Yard Switcher / Local Driver

Dedicated local drivers enjoy the many privileges that come with having consistent customers. Unlike some driver positions, this one gives you a better idea of the number of miles and hours each week holds, which means you’ll have a better idea of what to expect in every paycheck. And because you know your customers and their typical freight load, you’ll never be surprised or slowed down by unusual shipments.

  • Competitive pay:
    • Starting pay $20 per hour
    • Top pay $22 per hour reached within 12 months
    • Average up to 40-45 hours a week
    • Overtime applies after 40 hours per week
    • 95%-yard switching, 5% DOT regulated driving
  • Home daily
  • All switcher positions operate on a 4 and 3 day schedule every other week
    • Meaning week 1, you will work 4 days and off 3. Next week will work 3 days and off 4
  • These are further broken down into shift groups, let your recruiter know which one you are interested in:
    • Group A – Morning shift, 1st half of the week starting on Monday
    • Group B – Night shift, 1st half of week starting on Sunday
    • Group C – Morning shift, 2nd half of week (Saturdays included in all positions and some positions within this group also require Sunday).
    • Group D – Night shift, 2nd half of week (Some positions within this group require Saturdays)
  • Ensuring the timely movement of trailers in and out of the docks on-site at the customer’s location
  • May be required to perform local/ hourly runs depending on the customer’s need. Mostly to Montgomery, Tuscaloosa or southern Tennessee along I-65 route
  • Moves are issued through onboard tablet

  • Must live within a 60-mile radius
  • Minimum of 6 months’ verifiable tractor-trailer experience in the past 3 years, no additional training required
  • Minimum of 1-4 months’ verifiable tractor-trailer experience within the past year, 3 weeks of paid training
  • Minimum of 6 months’ verifiable tractor-trailer experience within the past 5 years, 1 week of paid training
  • Drivers must have Class A CDL
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • No convictions for reckless driving within the past 5 years
  • No convictions for DUI within the past 5 years
  • No suspensions or revocations within the last 5 years
  • No serious violations within the previous 12 months (15 mph or greater, following too closely, improper passing, traffic offense committed in a CMV in connection with fatality)
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the past 3 years
  • No preventable DOT recordable accidents within the past 3 years

Essential Functions:

  • Open/Close trailer door – force requirement: 46 lbs
  • Hook/Unhook trailer – force requirement: 90 lbs
  • Perform pre-trip inspections
  • Drive
  • Regular predictable attendance
  • Frequent bending for placement of wheel chocks
  • Safely enter/exit yard tractor 100+ times per shift
  • Lifting/opening trailer doors
  • Sliding trailer tandems when necessary
  • Safely maneuvering equipment with good backing skills
