Hiring Students is an Art!

At Melton, we tried hiring students 15 years ago.  After a trial period, we refocused our efforts on recruiting more experienced drivers.  However, recently, as we increase efforts to grow our premier flatbed fleet, we are accepting recent graduates to train with the very best of our experienced Melton drivers.

The main Truck Driving School training deficiency is preparing the students for the lifestyle.  In addition, we find that the families aren’t prepared for the extensive on the job training and the over-the-road lifestyle.

As a company creating our own professional drivers, we have to fill this gap.

We have carefully reconstructed our student training program. We find our student candidates to be enthusiastic and have a heightened sense of safety. Our exceptional training staff spends extra time with our recent graduates to better equip them with the tools they need to be successful on the road.

We are in the process of creating a new program that will help familiarize the families of our new drivers on the expectations and requirements needed for our drivers to be successful over-the-road. This program will include an online Melton Orientation for families, and access to a community for driver spouses that love and support one another. This remarkable group of ladies and family members reminds us of military families – they staunchly support their driver and ‘bleed blue’. They have learned how to balance life at home with life over the road — and are ready to share what they’ve learned.
