National Unemployment Rate

February 6, 2013

The latest unemployment report released by the Federal Bureau of Labor Statics shows the current unemployment rate is at 7.9%. This means over 12 million Americans are out of work. What’s even more unsettling is that of those 12 million unemployed Americans, 4.7 Million have been out of work 27 weeks or longer. Can many of us imagine over 6 months without stable income?

Recently, several articles have been published by CNN, Huffington Post and USA Today reporting on the number of jobs openings available, in all areas of the transportation industry. These reports show that many areas of transportation are suffering, whether it’s the need for 20 city School Bus Drivers in Kanawha County, WV or the thousands of trucking jobs that are currently waiting to be filled. Many currently unemployed Americans can qualify for these driving jobs!

The current unemployment rate of Detroit, MI is 17.6%, but with a quick Google search you can find driving jobs with companies like C.R. England, Walgreens, and First Transit. Each company has a terminal in and around the Detroit Area and are looking for drivers.

Why are these jobs going unfilled? With some time spent studying for a CDL, and a few weeks in training you can go from unemployed, to someone with a new career. A stable career isn’t the only perk! Many companies offer great benefits, vacation time, insurance, and annual salaries averaging from $25,000 for a bus driver to over $60,000 for truck drivers.

We hope you will share this article with a friend. By getting the word out, we can help lower the current unemployment rate, fill over 200,000 open jobs in the transportation industry, and we can help stimulate the economy by increasing employment locally. Please reference the driver jobs for information that will be helpful in finding the type of driving job you wish to pursue.
