Tax season is upon us and the clock is ticking! April 15th reignites our relationship with Uncle Sam. Are YOU ready?  Here are a few tax tips and deductions for professional drivers that will help save you time and money!

If you are subject to Department of Transportation rules that limit driving time and you itemize your return, you can claim 80 percent of reasonable costs for each night that you spend away from home.

However, if your employer reimburses you for expenses then you are not eligible for most of these tax deductions.

Here are a few deductions to remember:

1.)    Gas receipts ( Owner Operators)

2.)    Cell phone(data Plans)

3.)    Association fees

4.)    Tags

5.)    Insurance

6.)    Uniform fees

7.)    Safety equipment(Gloves, boots,)

8.)    DOT Medical exams

9.)    Office supplies(Owner Operators)

10.) Vehicle  maintenance cost
