Tons of Truck Driver Jobs Still Need to Be Filled
With a quick look online or in newspapers you can find plenty of transportation companies who are looking for qualified truck drivers to fill empty trucks.
It’s estimated that a truck without a driver costs a trucking company $800-$1,000 a day in lost revenue. As the US economy continues to recover from the 2009 financial crisis, the transportation industry is seeing a steady increase in the amount of available freight. The high demand for freight, compounded with the high demand for drivers, has left many transportation companies unable to keep up with demand, resulting in millions of dollars in lost freight.
With more money to spend, there is more freight to haul. The Bureau of Labor Statics reports that there are currently 1.5 million truck drivers in the US. However, the need for truck drivers will increase 20% over the next 7 years, leaving the transportation industry needing to fill over 300,000 trucking jobs.
Many trucking companies are rolling out the red carpet to attract qualified drivers.
Riverside Transport, a Kansas City based carrier, is currently offering a $10,000 sign on bonus for lease purchase operators. Other carriers like Arkansas based JB Hunt Transport, is offering a $1,650 relocation bonus, $1,000 sign on bonus, and an annual wage of $60,000 for drivers who are interested in relocating to the Northeast to fill a dedicated driving position.
Trucking companies are hoping to stand out to quality drivers by creating attractive benefits packages, increased home time, and an average starting wage of $38,000. This makes driving a truck a great career opportunity for anyone who is looking for a long term, stable driving career.
